NATIONAL HIRE BUYS SYKES GROUP TO DRIVE GLOBAL GROWTH
Allight has added to its stable of world class mining and construction equipment brands following news that its parent company, National Hire Group Ltd, has purchased leading pump manufacturer Sykes Group.
Completion of the acquisition was finalised on the 23rd November 2010.
Best-known for its mobile lighting towers, Perth-based Allight is also an exclusive Australasia distributor of Perkins engines, FG Wilson power generators, Rotair compressors and Godwin pumps.
Sykes has been a major player in Australia's pump market for more than 40 years, and since 2003 has extended its reach into major mining and construction markets around the world. The…
Now Airing: Allight Launches ROTAIR Air Compressors
Allight diversifies its power range with the exclusive launch of Rotair portable air compressors in Australia.
Italian-designed and made, Rotair air compressors are compact, powerful and developed to cater for various markets and needs, including construction, mining, rental and industrial.
According to Paul Sowerby, Allight’s Director of Sales and Marketing, Rotair’s high-tech design and quality manufacturing have put them at the forefront of compressor technology.
“Rotair industrial products have a solid reputation around the globe, and particularly in Europe.”
“When we considered adding portable air compressors to our range of power solutions, Rotair was an obvious choice,” said…
Allight Highlights Australian Manufacturing with Milestone Lighting Tower
Designed, engineered and manufactured in Australia, the EnviroLight MS4.5K9 Mine Series lighting tower will be the 7000th tower produced by Allight and is expected to be completed by the end of April.
Once out of production, the tower will be presented to Coates Hire West and transferred to Barrow Island to provide turtle-friendly lighting for the Gorgon Project.
“We’re thrilled that this landmark piece of equipment is destined for local shores, where it’s going to be used as a safe lighting system in a sensitive environment,” said Allight’s Director of Sales and Marketing, Paul Sowerby.
Allight Urban Returns To Underpin Stimulus Project Safety
One of the world's best-selling mobile lighting towers has been brought back into production to help improve site safety during overnight shifts, as civil construction contractors battle to complete billion dollar stimulus-funded infrastructure projects.
Originally launched in 2002, more than 900 Allight Urban lighting towers were built for construction and road work projects. Of those, over 200 were exported.
Much of the tower's success stemmed from its Australian-built durability, smaller footprint and whisper quiet sound levels of just 62 dBA (at seven metres). This quickly made it the tower of choice for projects such as metropolitan road works; where…
Turtle-Friendly Night Lights for Barrow Island
A wildlife-friendly mobile lighting system designed to illuminate mining and construction sites in environmentally sensitive areas, is being developed in response to calls for a lifeline for Barrow Island's flat backed turtle population; which could be threatened when the $50bn Gorgon project gets underway.
Known as Australia's Ark because the Class-A nature reserve holds mammals that are rare, if non-existent, anywhere else in the world, the island is also one of the world's top breeding grounds for sea turtles.
Studies have shown that turtles are dramatically disorientated by artificial light; which makes it harder for them to reach the sea…

Eighteen Years On, Still Going Strong
Nelson Mandela was freed after 27 years behind bars, Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke was re-elected for his fourth term, Collingwood defeated Essendon to win the AFL grand final, Christmas was spent Home Alone, and everyone was singing along to Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby; the year was 1990, and Allight completed our 138th mobile lighting tower at our production facility in Perth. Shipped on 2nd January 1991, the prodigal tower #138 recently made a return to Allight Perth. She may have seen better days, but this tower-of-tough is still going strong.
Current owners, FESA WA use the tower…
Working the Nightshift
Allight are covering the nightshift for every worksite with the Nightshifter Manual 4000 finally released in Australia; joining the Nightshifter Hydraulic 6000, the newly relaunched Urban Light, Mine Spec series and Super Skids in the world's largest and most diverse range of mobile lighting solutions.
The NM4000 was launched internationally at the Conexpo tradeshow in Las Vegas last March, and has since experienced a phenomenally fast market uptake. Allight's engineers have recently refined the design to deliver improved strength and durability, and added a braking system option allowing the units to be road licensed in Australia and South Africa.…
Keeping Track
From locating hire fleet equipment, to monitoring engine hours and fuel levels, GPS technology is capable of a whole lot more than pointing you to freeway when you're lost in the 'burbs. Allight's Research and Development team have developed a GPS monitoring system for mobile lighting towers and pumps, available as an option on new products or a retrofit for existing equipment.
Research and Development Manager, Latif Ahmad, sourced the tracking technology then developed and customised the solution to work with Allight mobile lighting towers and dewatering pumps. He explains how the system works and some of its benefits…
"That's One Small Step for Man..."
Okay, Allight haven't sent man to the moon just yet, but we are providing backup power to one of NASA's MOBLAS 5 Satellite Laser Ranging Stations.
Owned by NASA and operated by Geoscience Australia, the MOBLAS 5 SLR facility is located about 100kms south east of Geraldton, Western Australia, and plays an important role in Australian and International Geodetics - the measurement and representation of Earth, including its gravitational field, three-dimensionally and in real time. Liaising with NASA's Solid Earth and Natural Hazards Projects, MOBLAS 5 required an efficient, reliable power solution to continue communications in the event of…
"Telemetry, My Dear Watson": Talking Pumps for QMAG
Queensland's QMAG is one of the world's largest producers of magnesia, mining about three million tonnes of ore annually from its Kunwarara mine, 70kms north of Rockhampton. Balancing product quality by sequentially developing a number of pits mainly ranging from 15m to 18m in depth, QMAG required a high volume water management solution - water being critical for the running of the plant.
Allight's Andy Borthwick, based in Rockhampton, delivered with a CD200 and two CD300 variable speed skid-based dewatering pumps. With flow rates of 220L and 350L per second, respectively, Andy Borthwick said that the Kunwarara magnesia…
International Update: Bolos Quentes In Brazil
Brazil may be famous for the festivals and festivities of Futebol, Carnivale and Copacabana, but the world's tenth largest economy put on a show of a different kind with the M&T Expo, running June 3-6, 2009.
M&T Expo 2009 - the 7th International Trade Fair for Construction Equipment and the 5th International Trade Fair for Mining Equipment, held in Sao Paulo this June, was larger than life in Brazil itself; with some 350 exhibitors from over 25 countries, in an area of 85 000sqm, the event attracted over 42 000 foreign and Brazilian visitors.
Allight was one of these…
The Balance of Power: New Engines from Perkins
Perkins is releasing a new range of Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB compliant engines, to be available in Australia exclusively through Allight; both the 1200 and 850 series engines will deliver low emissions, more power and a smaller footprint.
The new 1200 Series builds on the strengths of the current, immensely popular 1100D Series. At the top of the range is the 1206E-E70TTA, a 7 litre, 6-cylinder unit capable of producing 225kW (300hp). This represents a 21% increase in power over Perkins' current 6.6 litre offering, giving OEMs who may have chosen a larger engine previously, the choice of the…
